10 questions with… BALAGAN

1. If you had to describe your music with a color, what would it be?

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet aka RAINBOW.

2. What’s the biggest struggle you have when it comes to creating?

The actual creating itself, writing a riff, a song, a lyric, a beat, is not something you can just decide to do, sometimes you’ll write 7 songs a night, and then not come up with anything for 7 months.

3. If you could play any show in the world, what would it be?

Having 3 people who can sing and play and look exactly like us, so we can finally see BALAGAN play a show.

4. What do you consider your biggest musical success?

Finding Dagger (our bass player), Jill & Dagger worked in a kitchen in Berlin together, as love sparks started flying around, we had a show booked and no bass player, then dagger jumped in, and ever since love is in the air, and a lot of really big viking hugs.

5. What inspired you to start making music?

We all play our instruments since we we’re kids, so it must be in our DNA. Also we all come from small places (Tel Aviv & Reykjavik), if you wanna express yourself, you better find a really good way, and music is ours.

6. If you could hear any person living or dead sing to you, who would it be?

ROY ORBISON, I actually had a dream that I walk down a street in Tel Aviv, and my dear friend (in my dreams) Roy Orbison is calling me up from his balcony in old city Jaffa, asking me to come up and listen to a new tune he’s been working on. So I came up, and looked at him while he plays for me the song “House With Out Windows“, told him I love it, and continued my day.

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE (in my dreams)

7. Who, aside from any band or musician, is your biggest influence?

It’s tacky to say, but I really think in our case, is our relationships, to our friends, and to our lovers, or even better ex-lovers, we’re writing a lot about loving, it’s hard to write a lyric which’s not somehow personal to you.

8. What do you like to do other than music?

Passionate cuddle sessions with one another, and talking excessively about our emotions. I’m not joking here. Besides that, Dagger is a chef in his day-to-day, Jill & Uri work in bars.

9. What is the most misjudged album in the world?

Limp Bizkit – Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water???

About misjudging, we played a few months ago with Californian band BLEACHED (super good), while they were on a support tour of PARAMORE (mega huge pop/emo band). One day later they played with Paramore at Admiralpalast, Berlin, and we went there. We came with all of our pre-existing ideas about Paramore’s music, scene, and status, so safe to say, we were really skeptical and critical. When Paramore started we were just super into it, what a band what a show! We had the best time, we were on the verge of crying when they let three screaming teenagers go onstage and sing with them.

10. What’s in your fridge?

Right now we’re in a hotel in Copenhagen so I’ll give the inventory of the mini bar: Tuborg Unfiltered, Coca Cola Life, apple juice, water, wine, 2x XL Red Bull, ice espresso.

Balagan released their first EP A Mess and their first single “Moonlight” on August 18th, 2017.
